Obituary of Leonard Walter Stephenson

Leonard (Lenny) Walter Stephenson passed away at the age of 61 in his home in
Summerville, South Carolina unexpectedly on Saturday March,11th 2023 due to a cardiac
event.

Lenny was born July 20th, 1961 to Dorothy (Yeaples) and William Stephenson in Bradford,
Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth (Gidget) Taylor on March 19th, 1994 and spent almost
30 years happily married. He graduated from Oswayo Valley High School in 1979 and
enlisted into the US Navy that same year. Lenny served for six years (1979-1985) as a
missile technician on both the USS Andrew Jackson and the USS George Washington
Carver. For several years he worked in the forestry industry before relocating to South
Carolina in 1997 and taking up a career in plumbing. In 2008 Lenny retired from the work
force to focus on his health and family.

Lenny was a simple man who enjoyed the small things in life. He enjoyed spending time with
his wife and kids. He is survived by his wife Gidget (49) and two of his children Rebekkah
(29 of Bowling Green, KY) and Maghan (26 of Summerville, SC). He was also survived by
his beloved cat Mooch, who watched over him daily. Lenny is survived by his siblings Laurie,
Donna, Ann, Kim, and Barbara. He was preceded in death by his son William who passed
at the age of 4 months in 1996 and his faithful companion Peanut who stood by his side for
fourteen years during times Lenny’s health was declining. Lenny is also preceded in death
by his parents William (2001) and Dorothy and siblings Barbara and Shari (all three in
1976).
There will not be a service or memorial as per Lenny’s wishes.


The family would like to pay special thanks to all the medical staff and providers that cared
for Lenny over the years. His home nurses especially played such a huge role in improving
and sustaining his quality of life. Their care and compassion will never be forgotten.
