Obituary of Dale Winter Smith

DALE WINTER SMITH, LADSON - Dale Winter Smith, 77, of Ladson, S.C., passed away Monday, May 15th at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, S.C. surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Theodore Smith. She was born May, 6, 1946 to Mina Morrar Ridgeway and David Rubin Winter in Charleston, S.C.  

 

Dale was a true believer and follower of Christ and was warmly regarded in the church. She enjoyed spending precise time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s many sporting events and other adventures. She grew up in Charleston and attended Charleston County Public Schools. She graduated from Garrett High School in 1964 where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and competed in the Miss North Charleston Beauty Pageant. She retired after working 36 years in the Accounting Department for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command - Southern Division in North Charleston.

 

She is survived by six children, Petrina Ciuffo Pope (Roy) of Summerville, Tony Ciuffo (Bonnie) of Clemson, Jacquelyn Marie Smith Foster (James) of Hanahan, John T. Smith, Jr. "Teddy" (Sherrie) of Roundo, Leigh Michele Summer (Dwayne) of N. Charleston, Shannon R. Smith (Andrea) of Ladson and 29 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Debby Bennett (Grovetown, Ga.), Diane Hills (Charleston) and David George Winter (Jacksonville, N.C.).

 

A memorial service will be held at Heritage Holiness Church in Ladson, officiated by Reverend Bob Matthews, Pastor. The family will receive visitation at 10 a.m. on Thursday May 25th, 2023 with services to follow at 11 a.m.No interment is planned. Flowers can be sent to Heritage Holiness Church, 3836 Ladson Rd., Ladson, S.C. 29456. Donations and Gifts in lieu of flowers can be made in the name of Dale Smith to Heritage Holiness Church.
