Obituary of Jacob E Maciag Jr.
Jack Maciag was born in 1936, to Jacob E. and Frances Mary Pinkos Maciag. He grew up in the Chicago area, attended school there, and finished his Master’s Degree at Chicago Teachers College, with many more credits toward a doctorate. Jack began teaching in the grade schools in Chicago, then moved to Tilden High School where he coached several sports and taught health sciences. Additionally, after school and on weekends, he was principal at a Driving Education Center.
He and Joanne Vandevoort married in 1959, and together they had four children: Kevin, Kris, Kimberly and Katherine Joanne. Joanne passed away in 1984.
In 1990 Jack and Ruth Anne James were married at St. Fabian Catholic Church in Bridgeview, Illinois. After six years in Woodridge, Illinois, after Jack retired, they moved to Fair Play, South Carolina, on Lake Hartwell. They spent 20 amazing years there, made good friends, and traveled whenever possible. In his later years he joined the Knights of Columbus, became a Fourth Degree Sir Knight, and proudly participated in their projects.
Jack loved life, loved children, and loved teaching. He was full of energy and full of mischief. He was incredibly strong, living through nine major surgeries and a lightning strike.
He is survived by his wife, his four adult children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Jack passed away on May 11, 2023.
We all love you so very much, Jack. May you rest in peace.
