Obituary of Virginia Elizabeth Bonnette
Virginia, Elizabeth Robinson Bonnette, 101 of Folly Beach, passed peacefully at home into God’s eternal light, Sunday June 4,2023.
Born in Charleston SC to Henry and Rosa Robinson. Virginia was a true Lowcountry Gem, with a wonderfully rich Geechee accent.
True to her initials VERB she was a woman of action.
At the age of 17 she worked at the Charleston Cigar Factory. During WWII she worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Virginia was one of the original “Rosie Riveters”, here is where she met her husband “Gus”, Augustus K Bonnette. They raised 3 sons and 1 daughter in North Charleston, SC. Once widowed Virginia built her home on Folly Beach, SC in1985 and resided there winning many “ Yard of the Month” awards. She graciously hosted family and friends. She will be remembered for her sharp mind, her “Virginia Bonnette Good Buying Award, Chicken Bogg, Whip Cream Cake and painting on a mean upper lip when needed.
She’s survived by her son Richard J Bonnette of Mt Pleasant, SC and her daughter Daryl S Bonnette of Folly Beach, SC, 5 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A service will be held for her at Folly Beach Methodist Church, Thursday June 15,2023 at 2pm. Family will receive friends and family after at the church hall.
