Obituary of Michael J Handzel

Michael J. Handzel (88), of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on June 13, 2023. Michael was born the youngest of 3 children to Michael and Francis Handzel on August 18, 1934. Michael attended Weber High School in Chicago, and later, the Walton School of Commerce, where he earned his accounting degree and practiced as a CPA his entire life. He had a very entrepreneurial spirit, owning and starting several businesses during his lifetime. He was also a very accomplished piano player and loved music.

Michael married Karen Jean McLaughlin in November of 1956 and together they had 6 children. Dianna Boston (Doug Boston), Michael Handzel (wife Christine), Judy Kunath (Larry Kunath), Tom Handzel (wife Justine), Kathleen Snedeker (Rick Snedeker), and Paul Handzel (wife Carolyn). Michael had 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was married a second time to Carol Handzel (Anastas) of Gary, Indiana.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his first and second wives, and his daughter Kathleen.
