Obituary of John M Conklin

John Conklin, 67, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on July 24, 2023, after a tireless 8 month battle with cancer. He was born on July 21, 1956, in Charleston, SC. John was a beloved husband, brother and friend. He was also a devoted pet parent for his whole life.

John was a quiet and very organized individual. In his understated way, he had a dry sense of humor and always managed to bring laughter to those around him. He was known for his willingness to go above and beyond for his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand.

John had a successful career as a broadcast engineer at WCIV from 1978 to 2004. Additionally, he served the local community with the Charleston County Election Commission.

John will be deeply missed by his dear wife of 15 years, Lynn Brown Conklin, and his sister, Janet Conklin Walsh, along with her husband Bill and their children, Frank and Amy.  He had many cousins, aunts and uncles, plus John was enthusiastically welcomed into Lynn’s large, loving family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Conklin, Sr., and his mother, Joan Hoppmann Conklin.

John's primary school education was at Sacred Heart Catholic School, and he attended Rivers High School for his secondary education. He furthered his education at Trident Technical College.

John enjoyed attending Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, where he found faith, solace and community. A memorial service will be held there on Monday at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pet Helpers of Charleston or Holy Spirit Lutheran Church of Charleston.

John Conklin will be remembered for his quiet strength, organization, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love and kindness.

Lynn and family will forever be sincerely grateful for the many acts of kindness, prayers and visits to John during his illness.
