Thomas Thrasher Jr.

Obituary of Thomas Garland Thrasher Jr.

Thomas Garland Thrasher, Jr.

Tommy was taken to be with the Lord on August 2, 2023. Born November 30, 1961 and raised in Charleston, he was a true South Carolina Nature Boy. He spent most of his career as a civilian contractor for the Department of Defense, a job he was passionate about and gave him opportunities to see the world. He loved America and the men and women who serve her. Tommy has friends and work family around the globe who were fortunate enough to go along on his many adventures. Feeding bald eagles in Alaska, fishing for Blue Marlin in Hawaii, attending baseball games in Japan, playing golf in Bermuda, falling in love in Italy, riding his Harley - Tommy was a man of action! He loved to say he had been everywhere but the electric chair and seen everything but the wind. Tommy’s most recent assignment took him to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he spent several years and became a fixture of the community, the “Mayor of GITMO.” He had a heart of gold and lent a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved animals, history, Dale Earnhardt Sr., fishing, Harley Davidsons, the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Phillies and the 49ers. He had a unique charisma that no one could resist, , we are grateful for the memories he made with everyone he met. Tommy is survived by his brother, Wayne Carter (Renee); sister, Dawn Howenstein (Joe); sister, Kim Moren (Scott); nephews and niece, Joseph and Jacob Howenstein, Anthony and Wesley Carter, Dalton Franke,  Justin and Emily Moren; great-nieces and great-nephews.
