Obituary of May Rhodes Gunter

May Rhodes Gunter, 75, of North Charleston, wife of Millege Winfield Gunter passed away on Friday August 11, 2023.

May was born on April 19, 1948, in Charleston, SC daughter of the late George Edward and Rachel Avant Rhodes. She Grew up in Charleston and graduated from Rivers High School. She held several jobs over the years, but her favorite job was being an Avon consultant. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering with the Summerville Salkehatchie program.

May is survived by her husband of over 56 years; two sons Michael Gunter (Veronica) and Marty Gunter (Danielle); Seven Grandchildren James Parsley (Veronika), Shelly Harvey, Michael Gunter Jr (Tiffany), Thereasa J. Gunter, Tanna Gunter, Riley Gunter & Lucy Gunter; 2 brothers George Rhodes (Adalia), Charles Rhodes (Joey), sister in-law Susan Gehlmann and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on August 26, 2023, from 1:00 to 1:45 pm, the memorial service will be held directly after at 2:00 pm in the Spell Chapel at Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to tunnels to towers and or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
