Kay Elyn Rodgers Obituary

Kay Elyn Rodgers, of Goose Creek, SC gained her angel wings Sunday, September 10th, 2023. Her celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 at Simplicity: 281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM followed by a celebratory memorial from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Kay was born December 16th, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late Edgar Carl Schugeld and Ruth Louise Warner Schugeld. She worked for the Federal Government for 45 years and retired in December 2021. Her civilian career began with the Charleston Naval Shipyard in August 1976 with Shop 31. In 1993, she began working in the comptroller department at what is now known as the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic. During her retirement she loved reading, spending time with her family, and spoiling her dog, Bambi.

She is survived by her son Skip Bogard (Rose) of Raleigh, NC; daughter Debra Bogard Leach of Goose Creek; three grandchildren, Kirstin Bogard Tanner (Hurshel, Sr.) of Goose Creek; Daniel Leach (Sarah) of James Island and Brett Leach (Maddie) of Goose Creek; four great-grandchildren, Hurshel, Jr. and Ellie Tanner of Goose Creek; Dolly and Cherry Leach of James Island. She is also survived by her beloved fur baby, Bambi, and many other close family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman Rodgers, both of her parents and her brother, Allan Kent Schugeld.
