
Obituary of James Ray Meherg
James Ray "Jim" Meherg of Summerville, SC, formerly of Tuscaloosa, AL, passed away at his home on September 25, 2023. Jim was born in Fayette, AL on October 19, 1938 to James Rayburn Meherg and Irene Fowler Meherg.
Jim is predeceased by his parents; wife, Verta Barr Meherg; and sister, Eloise Meherg Gregory.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Chrisynda Meherg Runion and Fonda Rae Meherg Inabinet, both of Summerville, SC; son, Jason Ray Meherg of Perdido Bay, FL; sisters Johnnie Meherg Sanford of Ringgold, GA and Tommie Lou Meherg Dean of Burley, ID; brother, Dan Meherg of Tuscaloosa, AL; former wife and mother of his children, Ruby Spencer Meherg; grandchildren, Ashton Runion Lethco, Heath Runion, Hannah Runion, Rae Inabinet Boatwright, and Julian Inabinet, as well as many beloved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim graduated from Tuscaloosa County High and earned an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Limestone College. He served at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a scuba diver and Foreman of Riggers on nuclear subs. After retiring from the shipyard, Jim obtained a real estate license, returned to Tuscaloosa, AL, and opened a Century 21 office. Jim was a believer of Christ Jesus and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed Alabama football ("Roll Tide"), the outdoors, and especially loved time spent on Lake Tuscaloosa.
