Obituary of Mary Arleene Mellon Rosenberry
Mary Arleene Mellon Rosenberry, 97, passed away peacefully Friday, October 6, 2023. She was in the presence of her loving caretakers/adopted family at the Oaks of Old Salem Assisted Living in Beaufort, where she had been since 2015.
She had been a long-time resident of nearby Land’s End on St. Helena Island where she loved the water and the sunsets.
Mary Arleene was born in Rockledge, Florida. She lived for an extended time in California, but called Lititz, Pennsylvania home for many years. It was there that she began square dancing, and had traveled the US extensively with her late husband in their RV before settling at Land’s End near family. She was an avid seamstress and painter, with a beautiful sense of humor and a ready smile. She was lovingly called ‘Our Flower Child’ at the Oaks—she loved to walk outside looking for birds and (many) special leaves. We were blessed to have her walk with us for so long!
She is survived by her sons, Alan Rose of St. Helena Island, and Clyde Rose of Pennsylvania; brother Edward Mellon of Montgomery, Alabama; sister Estrellita (Lita) Mellon of Burke, VA; another sister, Marian Goodyear pre-deceased her in 2019; nephews Bruce Goodyear and Michael Goodyear, both of Land’s End; Tim Goodyear Rios (Janeth) of Honduras; and DJ Edwards (Jenny) of Burke, VA; and nieces Valerie Mellon Finch of Waterford, VA and Natalie (Rich) Carroll of Leesburg, VA.
A graveside service at Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale is planned for early November.
