Obituary of Gardner Corey Brooks Jr.
Gardner ‘Corey’ Brooks, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on October 25th, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long illness. Corey was born on October 8th in Boston, Massachusetts to Gardner Corey Brooks and Margaret Cushing Brooks. He graduated from Wellesley High School and later attended Nasson College, where he earned his degree. A long-time resident of Maine, he retired to South Carolina where he lived most recently with his daughters. Corey was married for 49 years to his longtime love, Sandra Quinn Brooks, who passed away in 2021.
Corey was an avid fan of nature and spent many years enjoying the great outdoors. He was captivated by the history of ancient ships and had a love of aviation. He truly enjoyed camping in the Rangeley Lakes and was a lifelong animal lover. He was a passionate member of the team at Home Depot and thoroughly enjoyed his experiences assisting thousands of customers each year. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Corey is survived by his two daughters: Erika Lindsay Brooks and Kathryn Corey Tyrrell and her husband Shelby Tyrrell, all of Summerville, SC. He is also survived by his older sister, Margaret Cushing Hill of Duxbury, MA and his younger sister, Ellen Lindsay Powers of Medway, MA and her husband, Thomas. He is also survived by his five grandchildren; Evan Brooks of Maine, Jacob Brooks-Madgey of Florida, Kayla Brooks of Maine, Maggie Brooks of New Hampshire, Erin Usher of Arizona and six great grandchildren.
Corey had a heart of gold and the kindest soul. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held for Corey at a later date.
