Obituary of George William Gentry

George William Gentry, 79, of Edisto Island, passed away on May 10, 2024. George was born in Walterboro, SC on July 15, 1944, to Homer Frank and Jennie Hazel Gentry. The youngest of four siblings, he was predeceased in death by his brothers, Frank and Paul and sister, Mary. He graduated from Walterboro High school and attended Baptist College. George proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

 

George was a contractor and retired from the Piggly Wiggly Company after working over 30 years. He was a man of many talents and had a great passion for construction.

 

Most of all George enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, working in the yard, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sonya Stone Gentry, two daughters, Amy Gentry Campbell (David), Lisa Gentry Cook (Jason) and step-son, Dustin Jay Luckadoo. George spent his happiest moments being with his grandchildren, Emma Caroline and Haley Grace Campbell, and Dylan Grady and Payton Lane Luckadoo

telling stories of his childhood and sharing his special humor.

 

A Life Celebration for the family and friends of George will be held at a later time. Rest in peace George. You will be missed by many.
