Obituary of Kathleen Fender Hyer

Kathleen "Kitty" Fender Hyer, 99, wife of the late Harry R. Hyer, died peacefully on Sunday May 19, 2024.

Born on April 6, 1925 in Ehrhardt, SC, she was the daughter of Marion Sims Fender and Pearl Baker Fender.  Kitty attended Ehrhardt public schools and graduated from Erhardt High School in 1942.  She attended Palmer College in Columbia, SC earning a degree in accounting.  She was employed by several large companies, including South Carolina Power Company, but gave that up to care for her husband, a successful residential builder, and their two children.  Kitty enjoyed reading and sewing but preferred to be in her garden.  She loved the outdoors.  During her childhood she spent summers at her family home on Edisto Beach.  She and Harry were able to return to her beloved Edisto where they lived unitl Harry's death.  Kitty was a member of the Ravenel Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Shortly after Harry died she volunteered for the full-time ministry and devoted many years in promoting Bible education.

Kitty will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her children, Mark Hyer (Tammy) of Blythewood, SC, Cynthia Gleaton(Evans) of Charleston, Sc, three grandchildren Jennifer Dunn (Erick) , Laura Linaberry (Scot) and Timothy Hyer (Lindsey), along with sever great grandchildren.  She is preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry R. Hyer, two brothers, Hansford Fender and Gilbert Fender and one sister, Doris Kyle.  A memorial service will be held on June 8, 2024 at 1:00pm at the kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 3312 Bonanza Rd., Charleston, SC.  The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
