Obituary of Arthur Brock

Arthur “Sam” Brock 

Arthur “Sam” Brock was born January 18, 1953, in Seattle, Washington. However, he moved to North Charleston in his teens and considered himself a proud South Carolinian. He is a graduate of Stall High School, Class of 1971.

Sam spent a majority of his life in public service. He was a Deputy with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years, as a patrolman, detective, and finally, retiring as a Lieutenant. Sam had a lifelong love affair with baseball. He was a longtime member of the Charleston Umpire Association, officiating all ages, from youth to high school. He even continued to mentor from the stands after retirement. Even when he retired from police work and umpiring, he continued to be involved in youth baseball as a scorekeeper.

Sam was most proud of his family. He was a fixture at their games and events. His boisterous support was always a given. He was never happier than the times he spent with them.

Sam loved the beach, the sun, the ocean, and playing half rubber with his brothers-in-law. He had lifelong friends with whom he stayed in touch and met up for breakfast. His sense of humor was an acquired taste for some and greatly appreciated by others. But whatever else, Sam was always there to help a friend in need.

Sam is survived by his wife of 32 years, Maggie, his sons, Michael (Kristen) and Frank, his daughters, Sara and Tiffany (Mikey), his brother Mark Brock, his sisters, Lynda Restad, Vona Fitchhorn, and Cheryl Brock, grandchildren, and large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Von and Margie Brock and son, Greg.
