Obituary of John Gerald King

John Gerald King “Jerry”, age 78 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away June 28, 2021. Jerry was born February 15, 1943 in Newberry, South Carolina. He called several places home during his lifetime but spent most of his years in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed a long career managing hotel properties.

Jerry was a master of the dad joke and always the life of the party. He had a knack for making animals fall in love with him, but truth be told, it was probably because he would sneak them food when no one was looking. Fishing was his passion and he couldn’t wait to get out on the water in his boat. He could grill a mean steak and made the best chicken and catfish stews.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Cheryl, his four children Tina (Christina), Johnny, Leila (Gary), and Renée as well as one grandchild Evan, who was the apple of his eye. He is preceded in death by his father, Sam Terrell King; mother, Sarah Lucille King; brothers, Sammy King and Tommy King.

Jerry will be cremated by Simplicity Funeral Home and there will be no service. An intimate celebration of his life will be at a later date.
