Obituary of Edward McHale

Edward McHale Jr., formally of Binghamton, NY, passed away on September 18, 2021, peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by family.

Edward, born on June 15, 1935 to Marjorie Monica Mitchell and Edward McHale Sr. in Brattleboro, VT, was a dedicated educator, teacher, and school administrator. He was a 1958 graduate of Harpur College in Endicott, NY, with a degree in English literature and a 1966 graduate of the University of Michigan with a Master’s in Educational Administration.

Edward enjoyed restoring old houses, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. One of his favorite places to spend time was the McHale cottage on Heart Lake, where he could be found in the kitchen most mornings, making blueberry pancakes for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Barnes McHale, his children; Colleen (Chris) O’Connor, Ellen (John McKeeby) McHale, Edward Mchale the 3rd, Meghan McHale, and Molly (William Fininen) McHale. Edward is also survived by his 12 grandchildren; Brendan O’Connor, Caitlin O’Connor Evans, Erin O’Connor Rudman, Rory O’Connor, Fiona O’Connor, Ben McKeeby, Zach McKeeby, Maeve McKeeby, Ian McHale, Maisy Fininen, Tallulah Fininen, and Leah Mchale. Edward also is survived by one great-grandchild, Beckett Edward Rudman.

Edward has made a lasting impact on countless lives as a mentor, friend, and loved one and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in Binghamton, NY, at a later date this Fall.
