Obituary of Michael I Grigoriou

Michael I. Grigoriou died on September 20, 2021, at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Iraklis and Chrysanthe, and his brother, Chris. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat, and 3 children – Chrys, Michael (Elizabeth), and Amanda (John Thomas) Campbell. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren – Michael, Benjamin, and Hannah Grigoriou as well as Tessa and Knox Campbell.

He was born in Athens, Greece in 1943 and came to America at age 9. He quickly discovered, sadly, that the streets were not really paved in gold. He grew up as a patriot and served in the US Air Force in the Vietnam era.

He loved cars and motorcycles – actually anything that had wheels and a motor. He especially loved Corvettes, which he owned his entire life, and briefly raced.

Animals always played a major role with him. He loved them all even if they didn’t particularly care for him, such as the local alligators.

Music and painting also played major roles in his life.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to the Hilton Head Humane Association, a no-kill shelter at Hilton Head Humane Association, or at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
