Obituary of Robert Gene Chapman, Jr.
Robert Chapman June 18, 1959 - October 28, 2021
Born in 1959 in Jacksonville, Florida to his mother, Ruby, and his father Robert Sr. He grew up in Richmond, VA. He was a protective big brother to Patricia and Donald, and was an incredibly loyal friend. He loved to hunt and play his guitar, but his favorite pastime was telling people about Jesus.
As for high school, Robert was too busy to complete it. Later when Jesus found him, he did complete his education. He married his lovely wife Donna in 1985, they honeymooned in Disney. Robert left his job at Phillip Morris manufacturing cigarettes to go to college, where they had their first son, Joseph. They then went on to seminary and Robert earned his Master’s of Divinity degree, but more importantly this is where their second son, Caleb, was born.
Most of Robert’s friends only know him from after this time. Robert and his family were church planters in PA where they made many dear, dear friends. The last church plant he was involved with was in Goose Creek, SC. He was loved by anyone who took the time to get to know him.
Robert was diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia three years ago and spent his last good months trying to soak up as much scripture as he could. Early on, after his diagnosis, he wanted to spend his time reaching out to anyone and everyone to tell them about how Jesus saved him. He didn’t want to leave his family. We will miss him every day and try to carry on his legacy, but he is at peace now, he is whole, and he is with his Lord.
Robert is survived by his wife, Donna; their son Joseph and his wife Kanyn and by Ezekiel, his sweet, sweet grandson; by his son Caleb and his fiance Jenna. Also by his mother, Ruby Rodgers of Farmville, VA; by his sister Trisha and her husband Bo; and by his brother Donald and wife Lynni. He will also be missed by many, many nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at Kingsland Baptist Church at 8801 Perrymont Road in Richmond, VA on Saturday, October 30th visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 service to follow the visitation.
