Obituary of Donna R Prince

Donna R. Prince of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully in her home on November 3,2021 at the age of 67.

She was born in Portsmouth, VA in 1953 to the late Clara Kate “Judy” Brannon and Robert Clayton Dempsey. They moved to Charleston, SC while Robert was stationed in the Navy, and she would forever call the Lowcountry “home.”

Donna was preceded in death by her parents Clara Kate “Judy” Brannon and Robert Clayton Dempsey., husband, Markley Lawrence Prince 4th, son Markley Lawrence Prince 5th, and sister Sharon Dempsey Reynolds.

She is survived by her daughter Jessica, sons Chad and Brandt (Shannon), grandchildren Brian (Morgan), Jason, Aiden, Katie, and Aubrey, her brothers Jimmy (Teddie) and Stephen (Michelle), nieces and nephews and a lot of other people who thought the world of her.

Donna spent her whole life taking care of other people. While taking classes to pursue a career in clinical therapy and raising 4 pre-teen/teenage children, her husband was diagnosed with cancer and she would spend many years making him comfortable and happy until his passing in 1998. She loved being able to work and provide therapy services to many veterans, first responders, teachers, people affected by drugs, abused women and children, and a list of probably 24 more types of people she helped.

At the age of 62 she decided to retire from her career in order to become a full time caretaker for her elderly parents, one suffering from dementia, and the other a disabled veteran. She loved spending those years with her parents and she ensured their final years and eventual passing were as easy and peaceful as possible.

She moved back to the Lowcountry and settled back in Summerville in a home that was perfect for her. She loved listening to the trains that would go by while she was gardening, reading on her Kindle, playing solitaire, or watching The Voice. She loved her morning routine of coffee and connecting with her daughter while they sat in the garage before Jessica left for work. She enjoyed (or tolerated) her children calling her many times a day to discuss their days, complain about trivial things, and just ramble on about nothing.

During her final days she had no problems being very concise and particular about what she wanted to eat when having lunch and dinner brought to her by her son and daughter. She loved her talks with Nurse Nikki from Hospice and loved the care and professionalism she was shown. The team and coordinators at Agape Care ensured her care and eventual transition were as painless and comfortable as possible. We cannot thank them enough.

Donna was strong in will, in faith, and in spirit, and was until her final breath at 1:21am. She was at peace and comfortable knowing her soul was going to spend eternity surrounded by her higher power and by her loved ones waiting to welcome her home.

Donna requested that in her memory, donations be made to any Alzheimer’s or Dementia care charities.
