Ryan M Thompson, Obituary

Ryan M Thompson passed way at the age of 35, in his home in Summerville, SC, surrounded by family, on August 10, 2021. Born August 22, 1985, Ryan lost is brave battle with cancer but not without leaving his mark on those around him. Ryan spent much of his youth in Florida where he had attended Florida Community College of Jacksonville and worked as a mechanic for area golf courses. Then deciding at the age of 24 to join the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman being awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal W, Campaign Star and Army Service Ribbon.

Upon his discharge, Ryan enrolled at the Colorado School of Trades earning an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Gunsmithing.  Turning his passion and respect for the use of guns into a permanent career. At the time of his death, he had taken medical leave from KBR where he had continued his support for our armed forces, utilizing his Gunsmith training.

Ryan had a tremendous sense of humor, laughing at himself as much as he loved to tease his siblings, mom, and co-workers, catching them at just their perfect moment of vulnerability to bring a laugh to all. Ryan joked with his family even in his final hours. He was an avid collector of Comic Books and character Collector’s models from some of his favorite Superhero and Marvel movies. Also a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians, Ryan was one to always support “Chief Wahoo” and the “Tribe” When his son Benjamin was born Ryan’s sense of pride and parenthood took hold as he and Ben’s Mom, Katie spent all their time providing a loving environment.  He had such a short time with Ben, but his legacy of family unity will carry on as Ben’s Guardian Angel.

   Ryan is survived by son, Benjamin Wyatt, mom, Mimi Thompson, sister, Jennifer Rodgers [Walter], brother, Daniel Thompson, Grandmother, Nancy Thompson and Mom of his son, Katie Thompson. Additionally, Ryan is survived by niece, Ellie Rodgers, nephew Bryce Rodgers, numerous Ohio, and Maryland cousins along with dear friends.  He also left behind his beloved pup, Winston Peabody, whose tail always wagged for his master. Ryan was preceded in death by his father, D. Andrew Thompson.

  Ryan will be buried in Beaufort National Cemetery, with full military honors, on Friday, November 12, 2021, during a private ceremony. Ryan did not want a somber occasion following his passing therefore on Saturday, November 13, 2021, his family is holding a Celebration of Life Open House, at his home, where family can receive friends and share stories of their own.

  In lieu of flowers, Ryan’s family is asking for donations to be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, who serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.
