Obituary of Julio Solado

Julio Patrick Solado of North Charleston, born February 13, 1955, walked into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday morning, February 6, 2018. Julio was the loving husband of Lori Christian MacLeod Solado for 21 years. He was born in Erie, PA to the late Antonio and Mildred Solado. He is survived by his wife, Lori, and children John (Adrienne) MacLeod of North Charleston, Scott (Lizbeth) MacLeod of Yuma, AZ, Margaret “Meg” Forsythe of Parma, OH, and Richard (Jennifer) Solado of Olathe, KS, three grandchildren (Marina Kavouras, Emily Solado, and Ethan Solado) and a long list of extended family. Julio proudly served our country in the US Navy from 1973 to 1993. After retiring from the Navy, he spent time working with the City of North Charleston and later as a Charleston County Detention Officer, where he was respected by his fellow officers and inmates alike. Upon leaving the detention center, Julio spent his time working at Lowes, putting a smile on the faces of those he encountered. Julio was a man of few words, showing little emotion, with a dry sense of humor. He always put others before himself, wanting nothing in return. He loved dressing up as Santa with his full beard and Santa suit and bringing joy to all those around him. He was known by many as “Saint Julio”, a big teddy bear, or gentle giant. He was a long time member of Riverbluff Church, loved by everyone there. He was a loving and loyal husband and father who would do anything for his family. He treated everyone equally with dignity and respect. He truly blessed everyone who crossed his path. Julio has left this world a better place and there are no words that could fully describe what an amazing and loving man he was. Julio put up a valiant fight with health issues over the past five years. But even during that time he would never let anyone know he was struggling. We are all much better for having him in our lives. We will miss him, but are praising he is finally whole again and no longer in pain resting in his eternal home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on his birthday, February 13th, at Riverbluff Church, 5421 Riverbluff Parkway, North Charleston. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-10:50am with the service following at 11:00. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to any of the following organizations: Riverbluff Church, American Diabetes Association, the National MS Society, Bumper “T” Caring Clowns, Inc., or Hospice of Charleston.
