Obituary of Grady Aulden Woodard

Grady Aulden Woodard, 92, passed away on December 4, 2023 at 9:20 P.M.. His wife Wilma June Cain Woodard preceded him on August 25, 2018.

 

Survivors are his son Micheal Aulden Woodard I of Goose Creek and his wife Sheila and one grandson, Micheal Aulden Woodard II of Lawrence Kansas and his wife Emily, his great grandchildren, Sammy, Wesley and Ruth.

 

He enjoyed his family and friends and his neighbors. He fought crime in his neighborhood and was awarded the National VITA (Life) medal in Washington, D.C. on June 14, 2000, but most of all he loved his family.

 

Mr. Woodard had a long 34 year history as a Civil Service Employeewith NASA in pioneering space and working as Project Engineer placing 21 astronauts to the moon. He also worked with the U.S. Navy Submarine Rockets. He had success and many achievements. 

 

He developed many youth sports programs such as the track events with the Junior Olympics in South Carolina that spread nationally and the High School Beginners Baseball and Football Teams League with the North Charleston Optimist Club including the televised North Charleston Christmas parades. He was voted by the club members sd the Optimist of the Year in 1972-1973 and again 1975-1976 for his work. 

 

Graveside service will be on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 2 pm. at Whispering Pines Cemetery in Moncks Corner. South Carolina.
