Obituary of David Leroy Bouknight
David "Leroy" Bouknight, Jr.
David Leroy Bouknight, Jr. 78, of Charleston, SC, husband of Betty Winters Bouknight, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:00 am at Reservior Hall - 1601 Eagle Landing Blvd, Hanahan, SC 29410 (Across from Northwoods Mall).
Leroy was born on December 9,1945 in Lexington, SC., son of the late David L Bouknight Sr and the late Lula Mae Monts. He was a graduate of Garrett High School and Trident Technical College.
Leroy played in the Shrine Bowl while at Garrett. He played semi-pro football for Charleston Sports and other teams for almost 15 years. He worked as a diesel mechanic specializing in Detroit Diesel. He retired from Pro Shot Concrete in Alabama, where he worked as a shop foreman.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Winters Bouknight of Charleston; a daughter, Tonya Lynn Carter (Anthony) ; three grandchildren; Tiffany Velissarios, Theo Velissarios and Kaia Carter all of Charleston, SC. Two sisters; Betsy B. Rogers of Sarasota, FL. and Debbie Bouknight of North Charleston, SC.Two nephews; Ben Rogers (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA; Tim Rogers of Sarasoata, Fl. and niece Kerri Rogers Grasso (Dan) of Saratoga Springs, NY. Great-niece Talluhah Grasso of Saratoga, Springs, NY.
