Obituary of Donald Ross Londergan

Donald Ross Londergan of Summerville, South Carolina peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge on April 20, 2024 at Cypress Square retirement community in Summerville, South Carolina at the age of 85. Mr. Londergan was born on August 12, 1938 in London, Ohio. He was the son of William and Mabel (Ackerman) Londergan of London, Ohio. He attended school in London, Ohio and joined the Navy in 1956. He served honorably in the submarine service advancing to the rank of Senior Chief. After retiring from the Navy in 1975, he worked at Dixie Auto Parts in Summerville as a highly sought after machinist. He returned to serving the military by joining the Quality Engineering Division of the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1982 as a civilian Nuclear Engineering Technician, teaching reactor principles until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church and served in the Knights of Columbus. He was a favorite caller for them on bingo nights and enjoyed interacting with fellow members and bingo participants. Other hobbies included being a member of the Jedburg Flyers Airplane Club, and he loved working on anything mechanical. It was often said that he could "engineer," i.e. fix anything. He was married to his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Scott) Londergan from 1960 until her death 2010. He will be remembered by his children as Pop and by his grandchildren as the Grand P-A. Everyone else will remember him as Uncle Don and as the one who could always be counted on whenever and wherever a favor was needed. He is survived by his children Alan (Diana) Londergan, Michael (Julie) Londergan of Summerville, and Donna (Charles) Evans of Savannah, Georgia; by his grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Londergan, Brian (Ricky Symsick) Londergan, Cecilia (Andrew) Botkin, Cody Evans, Jarrett Londergan, and Cameron Londergan; and by many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. A private memorial with immediate family is planned.
