David, LJ, and I are so blessed to have had Lou in our lives. He meant so much to us and will be missed tremendously.
Ever since LJ was born 4 years ago, Lou has visited him every single week. They played and laughed so much! Lou was wonderful with LJ, from just holding him as an infant to letting him climb all over him just a couple of weeks ago. He'd even hand Lou his cane when he got ready to leave. And he made sure to come to LJ's birthday parties, even knowing he's not a big party-goer. He's left a large hole in our lives when he passed.
I've known Lou since David and I got married, 12 years ago. He was such a great person, like a best friend and grandpa figure rolled into one. He was my jukebox buddy. I'm having a hard time listening to some songs that come on the radio because they are some that I know Lou and I would play a lot. I helped him when he got hurt and was in rehab for months, making sure that I'd not only visit him to lift his spirits - he hated those places - but also to make sure his home was well-looked after while he was away. There was no hesitation when he needed the help, which I know he hated asking for but am glad he allowed me to do so. As life tends to happen, I didn't get to see him nearly as often as I wish I could have, but I am glad I saw him recently and have good memories of him.
David I know has known Lou even longer than I have. They would watch and bicker about football (pros and cons of the Gamecocks and Dallas v the Patriots), races, and golf, bowl, play trivia, and just chat about anything, everything, and nothing for hours over a cold beer. I know those are going to be his best memories of Lou.
Losing Lou has taken a huge hit on our family, as he was an extension of it.
Always loved.
