Obituary of Alanson Joseph Holmes Jr.

Summerville – Al Holmes, 84, of Summerville, SC, formerly of Hanahan, husband of Faye Williamson Holmes, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 18, 2020. A service will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC, at 1:00.

Al was born June 28, 1936 in Newport, Rhode Island, one of four children of the late Alanson Oregon Holmes and the late Anita Gramolini Holmes. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in the USAF serving two tours during the Vietnam War and received numerous awards. He was then stationed in Charleston where he met his beloved wife Faye. After retiring from the USAF he began a career with Haarmann and Reimer Company as a Chemical Technician and retired after twenty years of service. He was a member of the VFW, Elks Club, and American Legion. He enjoyed traveling with Faye and his dog Sophie, cooking pancakes for his grands, gardening, bowling, and just being with his family. His greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren and great grands.

He is survived by his wife, Faye, five daughters, Karen Waters (Jeff) of Millen, GA, Janice Gunter (Wes) of Folkston, GA, Dana Waller (Gary) of Savannah, GA, Lisa Smith (Wayne) of Goose Creek, SC, and Carrie Forrester (Stephen)of Athens, TN; One son Mark Bostick (Mary) of Moncks Corner; Two sisters; Anita Smith (Bill) of Cranston, RI, and Cathy Bradford (Ron) of Cranston, RI; One brother, Thomas Holmes also of Cranston, RI. Nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by one daughter, Stacey Holmes.
