Obituary of Jeffrey Scott Barnes

Jeffrey “Jeff” Scott Barnes, 68 of Summerville, S.C., and beloved husband of Patricia “Patty” McFaddin Barnes, was received to his eternal home on Monday evening, September 10th, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

      A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at North Trident Baptist Church, 9939 Jamison Road, Ladson, S.C. at 2;00 p.m. with Pastor John Homes officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

     Jeff was born March 23, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana, son of Charles Barnes of Santa Cruz, California and Mary Lou Seybold of South Bend, Indiana. A son, Joshua Michael Barnes, and a stepfather, Michael Tuomey preceded Jeff in death.

     Before Jeff retired, he was a teacher both in the public and private schools for many years.  He was a dedicated teacher, passionate about helping his students learn the best way they could and cared that they did well.  His education included a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Paltz, New York a Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina, and a Diploma from New Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

     In addition to being a teacher, Jeff was a military veteran of the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam, and served  as an instructor in the Pace Program on Navy ships. Dedicated to the ministry of the Gospel, Jeff was always involved in churches.  He was a regular attendee of North Trident Baptist Church and was involved in the ministry of other churches, always reaching out to help others in their spiritual lives and sharing the gospel of Christ everywhere that he went.

     A devoted husband and father, Jeff is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Patty, four daughters, Rebecca Anna Barnes, Joye Elizabeth Barnes, and Esther Melanie Barnes of Santa Cruz, California, and Deborah Michelle Barnes of Summerville, S.C.  He is also survived by a grandson Jasper and a son-in-law, Nathan Groth of Santa Cruz, California. His brothers include Bradley Barnes of Kingston, N.Y., Kendall Barnes, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Robert Seybold of South Bend, Indiana.  In addition, Jeff is survived by sisters, Lisa Greco of South Bend, Indiana, Eizabeth Hasse of Indianapolis, Indiana, Alyssa Barnes of Santa Cruz, California, and Kathy Scott of Tigard, Oregon. Other survivors include numerous  nieces, nephews, aunts , and uncles.

     Funeral arrangements are being handled by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services at 281 Treeland Suite C., Ladson, S.C.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Trident Baptist Church in Summerville, S.C.,Samaritan’s Purse Relief Organization for Hurricane Florence or other relief organizations.
