Obituary of Richard Harris Laidlaw

Richard “Dicky” Laidlaw of Hanahan passed away peacefully at Hospice of Charleston Center on July 26 in Charleston, SC at the age of 79. Dicky is survived by: his wife , Sallie Ann Laidaw; son, Edwin Laidlaw of Hanahan; daughter, Ruth Singletary and her husband Ted of Goose Creek; grandsons, Parker and Will Singletary of Goose Creek; and brothers, Ronald Laidlaw of Ravenel and Robert Laidlaw of Ladson. Dicky was born on April 20, 1936 in Charleston, SC. He graduated from Bishop England High School . Dicky served two years in the United States Navy prior to working for and retiring from the Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic in Goose Creek. He served his community as a Scoutmaster in a Boy Scout Troop, and as a church league softball coach. Additionally, as a member on the Veterans Committee at Elks Lodge 242, he assisted in helping over 100 veterans receive their VA benefits. Dicky enjoyed gardening, playing harmonica, dancing, and making wine. He loved to travel to the mountains of Western North Carolina. The family will receive friends and family at Simplicity Funeral Home at 5-8 PM on July 28th. The Celebration of Life will be at North Charleston United Methodist Church at 10 AM on July 29th with the burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dicky’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the North Charleston United Methodist Church’s Handicapped Fund. The family would like to thank the staffs at Pinewood Place of Goose Creek and Hospice of Charleston for their efforts, care, and dedication.
