Obituary of Sharon Lee Barnes-Pace

Sharon Barnes-Pace, 63, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by family after a brief struggle with cancer on Friday, May 15th, 2015. Sharon was born on July 30th, 1951 in Washington, D.C. to Roderick Barnes and Glenda Matthews-Barnes, both of whom are still living. She resided the majority of her childhood years in suburban Maryland, outside Washington, D.C. with a brief stint attending an Indian Reservation elementary school located in Arizona in the mid 1950’s. She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland in 1969. In the late 1980’s, she decided to return to school receiving a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from the University of Maryland in 1991. Her career as a paralegal took her to several different law firms in Maryland, with her final position working in the Frederick County, Maryland Courthouse as an assistant to the Clerk of the Court before retiring. During her retirement she had relocated to Fernandina Beach, Florida and she assisted feeding the homeless with the Hope House located there. Sharon’s hobbies were her love for dogs and performing research on her family’s ancestry. Throughout her life, she was a loving mother and grandmother, and was a dear friend to many. She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Albemarle, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Gary W. Pace of Bladensburg, Maryland. Surviving her in addition to her parents noted above are her three children, Michael G. Santmyer 45, and his wife Kimberley of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; Danielle Milloway 43, of Alpharetta, Georgia; and Leah Parker 38 and her husband Tony of Albemarle, North Carolina. Sharon is survived by 4 grandchildren, Brittany Lutz, stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware; Gary Milloway attending college at Kennesaw State University outside of Atlanta, Georgia; Madison Santmyer who will begin her freshman year at the University of South Carolina in the fall; and Allie Easley who will be entering Stanly Early College High School as a freshman in North Carolina. In addition, she is survived by five step-grandchildren Loren Audette; Caitlin Audette; Kylie Audette; Mackenzie Audette; Megan Parker; and one great-granddaughter Ellie Audette-Haygood. Services celebrating her life will be held at her son, Michael’s home located at 426 Glenmore Drive Moncks Corner, South Carolina 29461 on Thursday, May 21st at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice in honor of Sharon Barnes-Pace. The family would also like to thank in addition to Amedisys, all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Medical University of South Carolina who provided the utmost care and treatment.
