Obituary of Betty Clark

Betty Spady Nottingham Clark, 85, dearly loved by her family and friends, died peacefully on December 5, 2018 at the Presbyterian Village of Summerville, SC, where she had resided for the past 18 years.

Betty was born in 1933 in Northampton County, VA, the daughter of the late Francis Irving Nottingham and Marian Scott Goffigon. She attended Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Medical Technology in Richmond, VA. She was a member of Dorchester Presbyterian Church and a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Bristol, TN, where she had served as elder and deacon. She was a long-time member of Circle 4 and Singles Sunday School class and was active in outreach and missions.

Betty leaves two daughters, Deborah “Deb” Guess (J. Decherd Guess) Laurinburg, NC, and Lisa Clark (John Leite) Cordova , TN, and a son Gary Clark, Johnson City, TN. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, Joshua Jackson (Lydia), Lauren Jackson, Emily Clark Dillow (Michael), J. Aaron Clark, Chandler Guess, Cullen Guess, Ryan Leite (Rayna), and Kellyn Leite Robertson(Frank); 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Lyte Nottingham and Thomas Spady Nottingham.

Betty worked more than 20 years at L.M. Berry in Bristol, TN, but her heart was in being a mother and homemaker. She was kind, loving, compassionate, funny, and a lifelong learner. She loved cooking, playing cards and games, and never met a stranger. Her greatest strength was her ability to make others shine through her quiet acceptance, encouragement, and listening ear. She loved the Lord and lived her faith.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8th, at 10:00am in the chapel at the   Presbyterian Village of Summerville. Visitation will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Employee Assistance Fund/Village at Summerville.
