She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Jules Veil; brothers, John Alfred Quist, Oliver Amory Foisey, Lawrence Joseph Foisey, and Robert Leo Foisey.
Eloise was born on August 2, 1930 in The Bronx, New York City to Dorothy Ella (née Kelly) and Oliver Joseph Foisey. She graduated from Christopher Columbus, an all-girl high school, in 1948 in The Bronx. She worked for International Business Machines (IBM) and Equitable Life Assurance in New York City. Her fondest memory of growing up in The Bronx was going to Van Cortland Park for ice-skating with friends.
In 1955, she and two girlfriends, Norma Kibbe and Mary Kukulas (née Koschitz), moved to Los Angeles, and they lived on Santa Monica Boulevard. During these years, she worked at Richfield Oil Company. Her strongest memory of Los Angeles was, while on a walk in Hollywood, witnessing two airplanes colliding in mid-air.
She became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in California and moved to Iowa to help people learn about the Bible.
After moving to Iowa, as a full-time minister for Jehovah’s Witnesses, she met and married Eugene, also a full-time minister, in 1959 in Salina, Kansas. Beginning in 1960, the couple welcomed their first three children into their home. In 1965, the family moved to the Veil family home in Parsippany, New Jersey, where their last two children were born. The family then built a home in Springville, New York, where they lived until they moved to Ecuador, where they lived until 1976. After Ecuador, they relocated to the States, finally settling down in Canton, Ohio, where her children completed their schooling. She was often lauded for successfully raising five “only children”.
After her husband passed, Eloise returned to Ecuador for a number of years. Upon return to the States, she lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Canton, Ohio, Charlotte, North Carolina, and finally settled on John’s Island, South Carolina.
Eloise was a dedicated individual who was passionate about educating her neighbors about the bible. She was an active and dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall on John’s Island.
A funeral is scheduled for one o’clock in the afternoon of Friday February 15, 2019 at the Kingdom Hall, 3312 Bonanza Road, Charleston, South Carolina. Chris Hanson will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eloise’s life. The family would like to thank her friends on John’s Island for their care.
