Obituary of John Walter Hawkins

John Walter Hawkins, 86, the beloved husband of Patricia Hawkins, passed away on Wednesday January 7th 2015. Born on August 15, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, John was the son of the late Falcon Black Hawkins and Mae Infinger Hawkins. He graduated from the College of Charleston and received his Masters degree from Clemson University. John retired as a Senior Scientist from RM Engineered Products in North Charleston. He loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. He was a dedicated member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church where he served as organist for over 50 years. John is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Patricia Dantzler Hawkins, of Hanahan, SC. Siblings: sister, Millie Pridgen of Irmo, SC, brother, David Hawkins of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Children: Randy Hawkins (wife Wendy) of Eutawville, SC, Michael Hawkins (wife Chrystal) of Charleston, SC, Chris Hawkins (wife Kay) of North Charleston, SC. Grandchildren: Spencer Hawkins, Lindsey Hawkins, Ashton Hawkins, Gillan Hawkins, and Raymond Hawkins. Brothers Falcon B. Hawkins and Paul I. Hawkins preceded him in death. The family thanks his gracious caregiver, Mrs. Eunice Adu, provided by Griswold Home Care Service and the kind staff at Piedmont Hospice. They would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the many compassionate friends and families who have supported John and Pat with delicious meals and memorable visits. A graveside service for John will be held at Riverview Memorial Park, North Charleston, SC on Friday the 9th 2015 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, 4602 Durant Ave., North Charleston, SC 29405. Arrangements made by Simplicity Lowcountry Burial Services.
