Obituary of Robert Oliver Kilgore

Dedicated husband and loving father, Robert Oliver “Bubba” Kilgore (Dothan, AL) entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2014 after losing his battle to Alzheimer’s. A resident of the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro, SC, Robert was 81 years old. Born January 20, 1933, Robert was a devoted member of Grandview Baptist Church in Dothan until his retirement when he joined the fellowship at Judson Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama. Robert served in Dothan as a letter carrier for over thirty years with the United States Postal Service and was proprietor of Bubba’s Grill in Northside Mall. He was a jokester and a prankster who possessed a great love for his family and the friends he made during his lifetime. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had a story to tell of his excursions with his family and friends. He was a friend to all and loved by many. Kilgore’s military service included over twenty years in the Marine Corp and the Army National Guard. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the Far East and participated in the defense of UN positions in Korea. During his service, Robert achieved the rank of Major prior to his retirement and commanded units in Abbeville and Ashford, Alabama. He was an Expert Marksman and competed with the National Rifle Team winning numerous awards and honors. Robert is predeceased by his father, Robert Greer Kilgore, and his mother, Marie Posey Kilgore, both of Dothan. Survivors include his spouse of 57 years, Gail (Whitaker) Kilgore, sons Robert Steven Kilgore and Kirk Jason Kilgore (Cynthia Jones), and granddaughter Taylor Jeffcoat. Also surviving are his brother William Jerome (June) Kilgore, sister Charlotte (Kilgore) Platt and nephew Derek (Tricia) Kilgore and their children Brinley and Addison, all of Dothan.
