Obituary of Raymond Eugene Reed

Raymond Eugene Reed, 80, of the Veterans Victory House, Walterboro SC, passed from this life on Sunday, 17 August 2014. He was born on 27 April 1934 to Edward Arthur Reed and Eva Creola Bacot. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Helen Lyles and Minnie June Parfitt and his beloved wife Peggy Jarman-Reed. Ray is survived by his daughters, Gloria Jean Collins of Silver City, NM and Barbara New of Treasure Island, FL, two granddaughters, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Ray leaves behind countless friends, among them his very close and special friends, Miriam Powell, Sandy Allgood, Susan Taschner and Helen Powers. Ray was very proud of his military service, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served after World War II with the cleanup effort in Europe and the Korean War. He loved his country and spent his last few months at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC where he made many friends among the staff and residents. Ray loved the Lord and he loved music. He was an accomplished piano and guitar player and singer. He delighted many with his old time gospel and classic country music and was blessed to be a part of the music ministry at the Veterans Victory House. He will be remembered for his signature country song, “The Hadicol Boogie” and his gospel testimony song, “Deep Lost Sinner”. Ray always told folks to love and trust in the Lord and to stay “prayed up” each day. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 23 August 2014 at 2:00pm at Our Father’s House, 2242 Wren St. N. Charleston SC 29406. No flowers please. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Loving arrangements are being handled by Simplicity, Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services.
