Obituary of Joseph Bruce Odom
Joseph Bruce Odom, age 92, passed away Thursday, 07 August 2014 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina after an extended illness. The Toombs County native lived most of his life in Lyons, Georgia. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a Merchant Marine, primarily in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. In 2005, he retired from 59 years of continuous service to Truax Veneer Company, Inc.
He is survived by two daughters and a son – Gina Thomas (John) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Sharon Richardson (Dave) New Knoxville, Ohio, and Joseph B. Odom, II of Atlanta, Georgia – three granddaughters – Haley and Lillie Thomas of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Erin Summerlin of Dallas, Texas – two sisters – Kay Truett of Vidalia, Georgia and Joyce Gay of Jacksonville, Florida – and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ruth, his parents, Daniel and Annie Coleman Odom, two brothers, Cecil and James Odom, and three sisters, Helen Odom, Annie Vera Odom Harrell and Eloise Odom Krulic.
Interment will take place in the family plot at Lyons City Cemetery.
