Obituary of Gerald William Loudon

Gerald William Loudon, age 76, passed away July 18, 2014 at the Hospice Center of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. He was born January 6, 1938 in Highland Park, Michigan to Robert and Betty Loudon. He attended Liberty Elementary and Highland Park High School and later Michigan Tech and Lawrence Tech. In 1958 he moved to San Diego where he bowled professionally for a time but later returned to Michigan. In 1959 he was inducted into the Northwestern Masonic Lodge #529. In 1964, Gerald began working with ITE in Michigan. In 1969 he was one of a small team responsible for moving the plant to Roebuck. ITE eventually became Siemens, where he worked in customer service and marketing until he retired in 2000 after more than 30 years of service. Gerald enjoyed playing golf at Cotton Creek and Three Pines Country Clubs. For many years he was an active member, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America when he was growing up and in the late 70’s, he was the Scout Show General Chairman for the annual Scout Show held at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. He also enjoyed his friends and the staff at the Spartanburg Regional Wellness Center for many years. True to his Scottish heritage, he enjoyed listening to bagpipes any time he had the opportunity. Gerald is survived by Lois, his wife of 43 years and was his partner and best friend as they built their lives together. Gerald will be greatly missed by his two devoted children Eric Loudon (Shawna) and their children Brianna and Jordan of Roebuck and Pamela Loudon Sloat (Mark) and their children Amelia, Pattison, and Mariana of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Pam and Eric have wonderful memories of Gerald coaching little league games, teaching Sunday school, and supporting them as they grew and raised families of their own. Gerald is also survived by his brother Allen Loudon (Diane) of Dryden, Michigan and his sister Roberta Loudon Loy (Bill) of Pensacola, Florida and their son David of Pace, Florida and many other loving and supportive family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Robert Loudon. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church at 11am on Tuesday, July 22.
