Obituary of John Warren Long

John Warren Long, well known as JW, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away in his own residence on June 4th, 2014. The Memorial service will be held at 3 pm on June 26th, 2014 at Seacoast Summerville Church at 301 E 5th North Street, Summerville, 29483. John was born in Dixon, Illinois on January 19th, 1945. He graduated from Deland High School in 1965. He soon joined the Air Force on September 1965. John was married to Peggy W. Bailey Long on April 2, 1967. They were married 47 years. John retired in October, 1985, as Master Sergeant in The United States Air Force. John also worked for O’Malley Transportation and then retired from South Eastern Freight Line. John enjoyed racing, golfing, fishing and hunting, along with tinkering with electronics and woodworking. John is survived by Peggy Long, John Long (Dawn), Kendall Long, Lisa Moosman, James (Blue) Long, Jeff Long, Julian Long (Caroline), and many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. John is preceded in death by Maxine L. Connell, James (Jim) Connell, Charles (Charlie) Long of Deland, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Odyssey Hospice 5965 Core Road, Suite 603 North Charleston, SC 29406. The family of Peggy Long and John Warren Long II wishes to thank Summerville Medical Staff, Odyssey Hospice, Simplicity LowCountry Cremation and Burial Services, and Summerville Seacoast Church Staff. A small reception will follow after the conclusion of memorial service at the residence of John & Dawn Long.
