Obituary of Jack R Solders
Jack R Solders Jr, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather and longtime resident of Summerville, SC passed away on June 7, 2019 during his brief stay at the Victory House in Walterboro SC.
Jack was born in Portland Oregon to Jacks R Solders Sr and Iva Maxine Solders. He grew up a long, eventful life in Beaverton, Oregon with his sisters Ines Solders of Beaverton Oregon, Marlene (late Henry) McCoy of Texas, and Floyd (Ruth) Solders of San Francisco, CA. Growing up, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and a dry sense of humor.
After graduating from Beaverton high school, he enlisted the U S Army and fought honorably and bravely in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968. During which time, he met the woman of his dreams, Joan Marie Solders (nee Roi) who he married on June 8, 1968. He remained lovingly faithful for 51 years. In those years, he was active duty military for 23 years. He traveled extensively over the years with his wife to different places in the world and he
became a father to Sherry Lynn (Herbert) Mizzell. In 1988, he retired from the military and settled in a new life in Summerville, SC. Then he became a grandfather to 5 beautiful and wonderful grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lynnette (Eric) Lopez of Hialeah, Florida. Cody Grayson Solders of Summerville, SC. Dakota Ryan Solders of Conway, SC. Jessica Bean of King’s Mountain, NC and Sierra Rose Solders of Summerville, SC.
Jack also acquired a second family, who he loved just as much as his own when his oldest granddaughter became married to Eric Lopez. Raul and Maritza Capote and Evelyn and Julio Arciniegas. They brought joy to his life too. Raul Capote, Dad still plans on watching the women dance with you but at another time!
Over the last 20+ years, his interaction with Agent Orange took its toll on his body and his mind. Though we knew he wouldn’t be with us much longer, it was still a surprise to have seen him leave this world. But now he is free of his pain and is resting in peace. He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Maxine Solders.
