Obituary of Fredrick Wayne Franks

Fredrick Wayne Franks, 64, of Moncks Corner SC passed away June 13, 2019 at Trident Medical Center after a long illness.

Born in Charleston SC, the son of Len Franks and the late Martha S Barker. He was also preceded in death by a brother David Franks, stepbrother Ronald Hopkins, and grandparents William and Virginia Schumacher.

Fred is survived by his daughter and caregiver Stacey Franks, and 2 grandchildren Sierra Franks and Tyler Strickland; a son Shane Franks and stepson Thomas Ruff; his sister Virginia Jane Ernest & stepfather Al Barker; stepsister Sandra Brooks and brother-in-law Lee Brooks. He is also survived by a large family of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind 2 dogs and a cat.

He attended Hanahan High School and played football. Then spent some time in the Navy. His career changed and led him to law enforcement where he attended college in criminal justice, lifesaving courses, and tactical/raid training: He achieved many awards and certificates. He also took truck driving courses.

Over time he created several businesses: Upholstery, seafood, auto, appliances and the most recent a fireworks business. He shared his entrepreneurial spirit with family, friends, and anyone who wanted to work hard in building their own business.

Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed fish fry’s and oysters with friends and family. A marksman, political enthusiast, antique collector, music and movie fanatic. His favorite movies were Harry Potter and Star Trek. Along with crime, si-fi, action entertainment.

Fred Retired and loved spending time with family and friends, also taking vacations was a joy for him. Which he last went on a cruise in February of 2019 with his friend Javon Clamp.

The family would like to thank everyone for their care and support through his illness. The family would like to also thank the nurses and doctors for their care throughout his stay in the hospital. May we all find comfort knowing that he is now resting in peace.
