I graduated HS with David and although I had not seen him in 20 years almost, I do remember his big smile, extroverted personality and his love and respect for others. Rest with Christ, David.

It is so heart-wrenching to hear of the loss of dear loved ones, especially so when they are well know and loved for humanitarianism. Which puts me in the mind of what Jesus Christ done for all mankind in losing his life just temporarily and paving a way for us to have the chance to live forever and free of all sadness, sickness and death. Wow to be awakened by Jesus as he did with his good friend Lazarus. These promises give us hope to see our loved ones again happy, healthy and alive again! Please read in your own bible at John 5:28. 29 and Revelation 21:1-5

David was one of the kindest people ever. He never said an unkind word about anyone, and had a very encouraging spirit. This world needs more Davids.

David was a genuinely kind and extremely intelligent gentleman. I was blessed to have gotten to know him and Alice through the James F. Byrnes Foundation. When he worked in Greenwood, we had the opportunity to chat numerous times over meals and cups of Starbucks coffee. He was taken from us way too soon, but I know that he is in heaven and that I will see him again.

When I worked in Housing at the University of South Carolina, David was one of my Resident Assistants. His quiet demeanor, devotion to his position and residents made an impressive impact on the lives of those he came in contact with. Upon joining the the Byrnes Foundation, as the Executive Secretary, I was able to renew my friendship with him and his lovely wife. David is a true example of Governor Byrnes’ challenge to all scholars in that they treat their fellowman with dignity, make a difference in society and do nothing that will bring a disgrace to the foundation. David Lai, 1996 scholar – Your Byrnes Family – will miss YOU !
