Ben was a wonderful colleague, a great friend, and a brilliant mathematician. He will be missed greatly in our department and enormously by me personally.

Although it can be difficult to remember them at such a sad time, I am trying to focus on good memories of Ben. I recall lots of jokes and lots of homemade guacamole. Also plenty of deep discussions on whatever topic he was reading about (from biology to bispectrality). The attached photo shows Ben and I just two years ago at a tennis match on Daniel Island.

Here is a quote from the College of Charleston's announcement:
Ben was much more than a mathematician, teacher of mathematics, and colleague. In his quiet and unassuming way, Ben was a talented artist, an avid surfer and swimmer, a devoted husband to Liz and loving father to their daughter Gwen. With his wry sense of humor, gentle nature, and strong commitment to his purposes in life, Ben always brought laughter and a smile to any room he entered.
