Obituary of Hilda Pendarvis Kizer

Dorchester – Hilda Pendarvis Kizer entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 9, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1194 Zion Road in Dorchester, SC. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service at the church. Services will be officiated by Ronnie Brewer and John Carrington. Hilda was born December 17, 1927, the only daughter of the late Joseph David and Jessie-Stephens Pendarvis. A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Hilda graduated from Saint George high school in 1944, immediately beginning her work at the Charleston Navy Shipyard three days later on June third. She rose in the ranks from clerk-typist through comptroller, ending her career as Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration, Navy Base Charleston. Her 52 years of service were highly recognized through awards and commendations across the years, including the medals of Meritorious Civilian Service and Superior Civilian Service. She served under several Navy admirals who became treasured friends. After retiring in 1996, she enjoyed spending time with her children and family and adding to her many collections of teapots, frogs, and elephants. Her favorite time of the year was always Christmas when she would transform her already beautiful house into a Christmas wonderland. She filled every room with Christmas trees themed to the room itself and brought out all her favorite Christmas ornaments and decorations. All of this done with the unending help of her daughter-in-law Trisha. In addition to her parents, Hilda is predeceased by her husband William Shealy Kizer Sr. and her brother Joseph David Pendarvis Jr. She is survived by her three children Donna K. Heatherington (Ed), William S. “Billy” Kizer Jr. (Patricia), and Steven D. Kizer (Susan Weick); grandchildren, Christopher Kizer (Jenny), Nicklous Kizer (Brandi Kizer), John Heatherington, and Shealie Kizer (Tyler Palmer); great grandchildren, Sidney and Christopher Mullican, Kaylee Kizer, and Maddox Osbourne; brother, Zonnie Pendarvis (Phyllis) and a sister in law, Dorothy Pendarvis. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
