Obituary of Martha Fender

Martha Elizabeth Fender (61) of Charleston, South Carolina passed away at MUSC hospital peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday December 6th, 2017. She was born on September 11, 1956 In Charleston, South Carolina to the late James Hansford Fender (Father) and Louise Elizabeth Fender (Mother). In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Matthew Fender and uncle Gilbert Simms Fender. Martha is survived by her husband Steve Larkin Canady,Mother-in-law Sadie Mae (Bryant) Canady, Sister-In-Law Anglee Canady; Sons by Marriage, Derek Larkin Canady and Travis Newton Canady and his wife Rene’ and three grandchildren, Bishop Thomas Canady,Blake Austin Canady and Cheyenne Dee Canady; her brothers, Stephen Fender and David Fender ,her niece Dawn and husband Hank; her aunt Kathleen (Fender) Hyer and her husband Evans;her aunt Sarette Fender, wife of deceased uncle Gilbert Fender and daughters, Becky and Vicki Fender; her adopted sister and best friend Barbara Roberston and husband Ben, all of Charleston,along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Martha was a standout student in the 1977 graduating class at the University of South Carolina, with a Bachelors of Art in History. She worked for the human resources department of Charleston County for many years and retired. Martha had many passions and hobbies. playing both chess and checkers, coloring with her grandkids, and watching football.Martha was an avid reader all of her life and well-versed in history, cultures, and geography and so much more. She is fondly remembered as always having an open door and a big heart to anyone and everyone who was in need. A Memorial Celebration will be held at her place of residence and childhood home at a later date to be announced.
