I met Don in 1970 on joining the 312th Support Group (Army Reserve). I had the privilege of serving with him in the 312th, and later on the 328th Maintenance Detachment and on the staff of the 79th ARCOM. I remember one summer camp with the 312th at Fort Pickett, VA - Don and Andy had just been married and there we were in the wilds of Virginia with one pay phone available. Of course, Don wanted to call his new bride so stood in line for his turn for the phone, called Andy...but no answer. Even after several later calls! It wasn't until the next day when he got an answer, a recording from the company he had mistakenly dialed! We were roomates and he got a lot of kidding about that for the next two weeks, but he was a good sport.
We stayed in touch over the years. When he was in Philadelphia last spring, we had a chance to get together with another friend of Don's, Jack Stoll, and reminisced over lunch. He will be missed.
