Obituary of Ruth Ann Carlson

Ruth Ann Carlson, 73, of Summerville, South Carolina, entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, January 31, 2020  at Roper Hospice Cottages of Mount Pleasant. Ruth Ann was born in New York, New York on June 13, 1946 to Joseph Allen Baton Sr. and Alethia R. Casey. Ruth Ann graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1965. During her career she worked at several locations and at several jobs.

In 1969, Ruth Ann married Richard Aaron Carlson of Chicago, Illinois in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The couple lived in San Francisco and San Diego, California, Bremerton, Washington, New London, Connecticut, Orlando, Florida and ultimately, Summerville, South Carolina as Richard’s Military and civilian career dictated. Ruth Ann was the proud wife of a Submarine Sailor who kept their lives and loves together through multiple transfers, deployments and other duties. She was the ombudsman for the U.S. Submarine Sculpin SSN590, receiving praise and credit for superior performance as the “Go to, get the job done” member.

Ruth Ann is survived by her husband, Richard of Summerville; her Son, Erik and his wife, Trina of North Charleston; her daughter, Erin West of Summerville; 4 grandchildren, Darian, Liam, Jordan and Gunner; 2 great grandchildren Kali and Emberly and her brother, Charles R. Baton of St. Augustine, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alethia Baton; brothers, Joe, George and Robert Baton and her sister, Juanita.

The family would like to thank all the Hospice of Charleston and Roper Hospice cottages Doctors, Nurses, Support Staff, Aids and Volunteers for their love, care and compassion. They are truly Angels on earth.
