Obituary of Jim Garrett, Jr.

     James A. Garrett, Jr. (Jim) passed away on February 12, 2020 in North Charleston, South Carolina. He passed peacefully in the arms of his wife and with his golden retriever Henry by his side. Jim was born in Seneca, SC and attended D.W. Daniel (Clemson) and Wade Hampton (Greenville) High schools, graduating in 1969. He was a 1976 graduate of Clemson University with degrees in English and French. He attended graduate school at NC State University. 

     He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Catherine Garrett of North Charleston, mother Sarah W. Garrett of Southern Pines, NC, sister Carol Grey (Jeff) of Carthage, NC, brother Kevin of Easley, SC, mother-in- law Mary Faison of Raleigh, NC, sister in law Anne Heilman (Joe) of Clayton, NC and brother in law Bill Faison (Holly) of Raleigh, NC. Jim is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Shane Garrett, Samantha Atwater, Dawson Grey, Michael, Lindsey, William Faison and Ryan Heilman. Jim was predeceased by his father James A. Garrett, Sr. and brother Wesley Garrett.

     He leaves many cherished lifelong friends and a group of kindred reprobates from “The Yard.” #ginandtonic,  bigolecup, #cookieman. Jim loved an adventure. Fishing, beach days, concerts, any Clemson event, road tripping across the US and Canada or off-trail dog park hikes were just a few of his loves.  He was at his happiest when strumming his Martin guitar, watching film noir on TCM and playing with his dogs. #thesimplelife. Jim was the epitome of a Southern gentleman.

      A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29,2020 at 1 pm in the Lowcountry Simplicity Summerville chapel, 281 Treeland Drive, Suite C. Ladson. A reception will follow afterwards at the Holiday Inn Express on Elms Center Drive, North Charleston.
