Anthony Davis

Obituary of Anthony Brian Davis

Anthony Brian Davis, known by all as Tony, died unexpectedly in his home on February 17, 2020 in Summerville, South Carolina at the age of 47.
Tony is survived by his mother, Carolyn Elaine Spiars Davis of Leesville, South Carolina; father, Roy Elmore Davis of Chiefland, Florida; his partner, Ann McDonald; children, Andrew and Jessica; and sister, Melissa Joann Davis.
Tony was born on March 16, 1972 in West Columbia, South Carolina to Roy and Carolyn Davis.  Moving to Fairview, South Carolina in 3rd grade, Tony went on to attend Pelion High School, where he excelled in both academics, woodwinds, and sports.  Tony, an outstanding athlete with drive and natural talent, was a star player on the basketball court, football field, and golf green. Voted Most Handsome, Tony graduated from PHS in 1990. Tony then moved to Columbia, SC, where he attended the University of South Carolina, taking time off to move to Boulder Colorado, where he raced mountain bikes, earning the nickname Turbo Tony.  He then returned to USC and, in 1997, graduated with a B.S. in Geology and double minors in history and geography, with the intention of teaching middle school Social Studies.  After graduation, Tony returned to Colorado, where he lived until 2003, moving to Charleston with his then wife, Jennifer Taylor-Davis, and one year old Drew. In 2011, Jesi was born.
Tony was a dedicated father who coached both his children in youth sports flag football, creating an unbreakable bond with both Drew, who eventually worked as his dad’s assistant coach, and Jesi, the quarterback and only girl on the team.  Coach Tony was a passionate leader who taught his players not just the fundamentals of the game, but also how to be good sports and play hard. His pride in his players was obvious, and he loved to see them continue to excel at football as they moved on to higher levels of play.
Tony met Ann McDonald in 2015, and the two became partners in a relationship that grew into T & A Fossils, LLC, a small business that Tony worked to grow into a successful enterprise through his hard work, talent, and charisma. Through the company, Tony and Ann brought shark teeth and fossils to people, and Tony delighted in that work. Tony could do anything he put his mind to, and he began making jewelry and display stands for T & A Fossils, finding joy and deep satisfaction in creating unique works of art for the people he reached through Facebook Live auctions.
Tony was a generous, witty, dedicated, and loyal man who loved life and who was passionate about finding shark teeth and collecting artifacts. His extensive knowledge of geology, along with his uncanny intelligence, positive attitude, and love of nature, drew people to Tony, and he delighted in taking friends to local Summerville creeks and teaching them how and where to find the teeth. Tony was an active and dedicated member of the fossil and artifact collecting communities, earning the respect and admiration from the members of those communities, to whom he will always be known as Meg Man.
At the time of his death, Tony worked for Paper Chemical and Supply Company as the Warewash and Laundry Manager, where he was respected for his depth of knowledge, his upbeat personality, his whacky sense of humor, and his kindness.
Tony’s kindness and generosity touched many people. He will be greatly missed.
