Obituary of Walter Ray Brown

Army Veteran Walter Ray Brown, 61, of North Charleston, SC passed away on February 28, 2020.

Walter is survived by his mother Frances Brown, his brother James Brown (wife: Terri Brown), his sister Teresa Brown, his daughter Dana Vass (husband: Patrick Vass), grandchildren Collin, Carsyn, Cayden, Brooklynn and Jaxson, son Michael Brown (wife: Heather), grandchildren Connor, London and Channing, nephews and nieces Scott, Bubba, Carla, Crystal, Jason, Bradly and Frannie, all of his great nephews and nieces and all of the other family and friends who loved him.

Walter is predeceased by his father Ralph Brown Sr., and his brother Ralph Brown Jr. “Buddy” (wife: Brenda Brown, still living).

Walt was the type of guy that lit up a room. He was always looking for a good laugh or smile, and loved making others feel like they were on top of the world. When he told stories they were always exaggerated, but extremely entertaining. Everywhere he went, even the hospital, Walt was sure to either flirt with the ladies or play some sort of prank.

As a father, son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend, Walt’s life didn’t always portray the love he truly felt. He had a hard life of struggle, but always kept trying. He wanted to fight his demons, just sometimes they were too hard to beat. He was as hard-headed as they come...but his fight is over. Walter Brown is free.

In his 20s he was a preacher. Two of his favorite hymns was “I’ll Fly Away” and “Victory in Jesus.” If you knew him then, you can probably hear the dogs howling thinking of him singing to the top of his lungs. Let’s just say he wasn’t the best vocalist. Lol!

Walt was probably most known for his love of his family, love of sports and love of candy. His grandkids, even a few who weren’t biological, were his world. All eight of them absolutely adored “Grandad,” or “Grandada.” Walt even treated his nephews and nieces the same, like they were his own.

He was the biggest New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers and Clemson Tigers fan. Sometimes it was quite annoying how he would rub it in if you were for the other team, but again...that’s just how passionate he was about what, and who, he loved.

Your last page turned here on Earth, Dad...but your new story is one of majesty, I’m sure of it.

He’s probably singing with the angels now:

“I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood's atoning Then I repented of my sins and won the victory…”

Walt, Dad, the battle is over and the victory was won.

Until next time,

Michael, Dana and Family
