Obituary of Emery Adolph Walters

Emery Adolph Walters “Poo”, 87 of Hanahan, SC passed away Friday, July 13, 2012. Born December 29, 1924 in Reevesville, SC, he was the son of the late Emory Adison Walters and Harriett Reeves Walters. Mr. Walters was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a great love for both hunting and fishing, which he shared with and passed on to his grandchildren. Mr. Walters was a career electrician and retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mr. Walters was a World War II veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart and participated in the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach. Mr. Walters is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Ellen Walters, one sister Tivie Mae Smoak (Alfred); one son Timothy Walters (Claudia); and three daughters Brenda Shields (Nelson); Carol Taylor (Marion); Cynthia Walters; four grandchildren, Tonya Clark (William); Teague Jones (Lauren); Chad Shields (Jeannie); Brian Medina; Valentina Leyton; six great grandchildren Kaytlin and Jayce Clark, Conner and Kendal Jones, Dylan and Katiana Adame. Visitation for Mr. Walters will take place on Tuesday July 17, 2012 from 12-2pm at Old St. George Baptist Church – 509 Old St. George Road in St. George. Funeral services celebrating his life will follow at 2pm with burial in the church cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project – P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675. Arrangements are by Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services.
